DESCRIPTION:
Levofloxacin is a bactericidal antibiotic of the fluoroquinolone drug class that directly inhibits bacterial DNA synthesis. Levofloxacin promotes the breakage of DNA strands by inhibiting DNA-gyrase in susceptible organisms, which inhibits the relaxation of supercoiled DNA.
INDICATION:
Levofloxacin is used to treat infections including:
- Urinary tract, including your kidneys or bladder.
- Nasal sinuses.
- Lungs, in people with long-term breathing problems or pneumonia.
- Skin and underneath the skin, including muscles. This is sometimes called ‘soft tissue’. Sometimes infections are caused by viruses rather than by bacteria. Examples include viral infections in the sinuses and lungs, such as the common cold or flu. Antibiotics, including Levosat, do not kill viruses.
- Prostate gland, where you have a long-lasting infection.
